Other ways to draw

Beyond the frame

I believe that lines have the same force as words, that a stain can be even more precise than a complete sentence. In them I find the rhythm and balance that is hidden in the very fold of their essence.

The line leads me to break the frame, to play with it, always looking for the limits of the possible, which make it emerge as an absolute consequence of the action.

From Virtual to Real Space

Once an architect asked me why painters talk about space. My answer was that in painting ,as in drawing, when they speak of space they are indicating the scenario where the work happens and that in an architectural project that real space is implicit in that virtual space. The special concept is so important in visual arts as silence is to music. This serves as a preamble to refer to Guillermo Anselmo Vezzosi´s work, an excellent sketcher from Sante Fe who has moved his lines from virtual space into the real one.

Not only does he handle drawing on paper but also colour with a pictorial concept embedded in the lines, in the environment he creates with his floating wires, colour mixes creating a feeling in those who circulate among them, that they are amid veins, the very structure of life. That is why he speaks of “cells of a big mutant organism” and that “as the cosmos we are all victims of time”. I think that in his own way, he ties to realize what will be the characteristic of this century art: the rise of chaos or better said the perception of the cross-linking of space and time that is latent in the most actual concept of web.

One of the traditional characteristic of drawing and painting is the immediacy in the perception of the work. Then, the observer takes his time to understand it. In Vezzosi´s work that is impossible. The only way to perceive it is to go through it. As well as in his drawing on paper, he conceives space as that which conditions the relationship between man and time, that is “ethereal, ungoverned”. Mutating is its characteristic.

If we give place in “The Line Thinks” to the work of Guillermo Anselmo Vezzosi, it is because we consider that drawing nowadays, can transcend virtual space and invade the real one, due to the conscience we have of the line in freedom, not only conditioned by the representation. It is here that Vezzosi´s work is greatly actual.

Guillermo Vezzosi realiza construcciones, y al mismo tiempo, digresiones sobre las construcciones, búsquedas conceptuales y también preguntas acerca de cómo los materiales inciden y hasta crean su propio mundo.
